It took less than one minute to boot the Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8.0) system on my notebook before. But after the installation of driver (RTUSB D2870-4.2.6.0 UI-4.0.8.0_2012_09_28.dmg) of a USB WiFi adapter (D-Link DWA-140, RT2870 chip), it took ten minutes to boot. After the login screen, I can see desktop, move the mouse, but can to click anything. Minutes later, I can do everything normally. I searched system logs, and found that as soon as I get back the control, there is a log:

Timeout waiting for IOKit to be quiet

I uninstalled the Wifi adapter driver, my notebook worked fine again. So it must have something to do with the driver.Read more >>

I have a very old MacBook Pro. It is a MA610 /A1211 (MacBookPro2,1, 15-inch, 2.33 GHz T7600, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 Graphics card), released at late 2006. I wanted to install Windows 7 on it. Solution 1.Select a Startup Disk in System Preferences

By default, when VLC takes a snapshot, it saves the file to desktop, and names it with prefix vlcsnap, date and video time. I have a Macbook pro, and it has a 64G SSD. I install lion on the disk. Lion OS takes lots of space, and not much space left, so I took the superdrive away and installed a second 500G HDD on my Macbook pro. But Google Picasa, the photo manager app take Gigas space on SSD for cache purpose (thumbnails, indexes…). Here I will show you how to move these data off you SSD to Hard Disk Drive:

I installed Lion on another partition, then migrated the data from Snow Leopard disk to the new Lion system yesterday. Almost everything worked fine, except mysql, php, and mlDonkey did not work, but I fixed these problems.

Restore the scrolling direction of Mouse

System->Preferences->Mouse
uncheck "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating"

Logitech Control Center

If you use Logitech mouse like me, you need to upgrade the Logitech Control Center application. Only new LCC supports Mission Control.
